Visual Perception

Visual Perception is the ability of the brain to process, and correctly use the information received through vision. It is a complex and multi layered skill area and is essential in many everyday functional activities. When difficulties are experienced in this area, you may note a child having challenges in:
  • Ability to visually identify similarities and differences (discriminate shapes and colours)
  • Fine motor skills (writing, cutting, drawing, manipulating objects)
  • Difficulty finding objects in a cluttered or 'busy' environment
  • Self care skills (eg dressing)
  • Reading
  • Engaging in co-ordinated gross motor activities
