Gross Motor Skills
Gross Motor skills refer to the larger muscle and whole body movements. These skills are important for children as they are necessary in most daily activities, such as dressing and eating. Gross Motor skills also directly relate to the development of fine motor skills, as with a weak or under developed core, it is impossible for an individual to stablise to undertake well controlled hand (fine motor) activities. As such, OT will address underdeveloped Gross Motor skills in order to maximise daily activity and fine motor skills. OT intervention in this area often focuses on:
• Core stability • Motor planning • Motor control
